What Shows Up In A Background Check?

When you are wondering what shows up in a background check, you need to first know what the background screening is for. There are a thousand and one things to find out about a particular individual and if you are not selective on what you need, you may end up with an overflow of information that you cannot digest. So let's start with a typical example of background screening, pre-employment check.

So what shows up in a background check for prospective employee?

First and foremost, the prospective employer should do a Social Security Number or SSN check. The check reveals information like name, aliases, current address, address history, and SSN date of issue. Information gathered from SSN check can be used to verify the integrity of particulars given by the prospective employee. If the person claims that he was born in US but SSN date of issue was only a few months ago, this could mean the person is lying. Another scenario will be if he claims that he never stayed in another state for the past 5 years but SSN check revealed that he was in another state a few months ago, you should have some serious questions as to why this person is withholding this information.

The next thing you need to look at is criminal history record of the person. It is not enough just to look at what shows up in a background check on criminal history because a person may be charged or under investigation but has yet to be convicted. In this case, a warrant record will come in handy to make it a more comprehensive report on the person's standing with the law. A court record will further enhance the person's report by showing whether he or she has been charged in court before.

We covered the social and legal aspect, the next step is to go into the financial aspect. A person's financial status can be determined by bankruptcy and credit report. What shows up in a background check on credit score can help to ascertain an individual's credit situation. Knowing a person's financial standing is crucial especially if he or she is going to be dealing with company assets or funds when joining.

Knowing what shows up in a background check is one thing but gathering those information is another. Go for a one-stop service that provides you with all the necessary information instead of gathering them from different sources. It will save you an enormous amount of time.

Finding More Work - Creative Freelance Part III

Talking to who you know and getting plugged into your community should always be the first two things that you do. Interacting and networking with those that you know can be much more productive for your business than with those in cyberspace. But there is something to be said about online business.

There are hundreds of websites that can connect you with creative freelance jobs. The possibilities are endless. If you need money quickly, you've just started, and you don't have much business yet [or at least, not enough to spend 20 hours a week on], you may want to consider checking out jobs on freelancing websites like getafreelancer.com (the Swedish based company will even send you updates throughout the day that match your chosen abilities, like graphic design, Flash, and proofreading to name a very small few off their list). If you don't have a virtual base for your work yet (whether it be a blog, website, or even flickr.com), you will need to create one and add your work to it.

You can even put your work on already established sites. If you're a writer, volunteer (or accept a small donation) your work on blogs to get your name out there. makemoneyfromwriting.com has tons of tips to help you get started. If you're a graphic or web designer, avenues like etsy.com and moo.com can help you get your work out there and you can make a profit without having to do all of the marketing. If you're a musician and you've already recorded, iTunes and many other digital distribution sites have made it more accessible for independent artists to sell their work.

With your online resources:

* Join online sites that notify you when there's work relating to your creativity

* Create an online presence and drive traffic to it through advertising

* Volunteer or receive small donations for your work to get your name out there

All it takes is getting your name (whatever that may be) more established. You need to have your name in the mouths of your friends and family, community, and online. The more you're pushing for it, the more you'll see it come to pass. It may take a six months to a year to finally get the full-time creative work you've always wanted, but it's well worth it. Think outside the box. And the next time you find yourself sucked into Craig's List for hours and hours, remember this article and pick a new project to work on to help you find more work.

Turnkey Internet Business - The Truth About Turnkey Business Opportunities

If you've been on the Internet for a while, you would have seen many of those turnkey Internet business opportunities. Most of them sell you on the 'turnkey solution' on offer, and how it is the fastest way to get into business and start reaping profits. The reality is much more different!

Here is the truth about turnkey business opportunities - most of them don't work. Period. If anything, they are only working for the product creator who created the opportunity! This is because the product owners will often add in some kind of branding to give exposure to their brand, and many will add in an affiliate program to get affiliates to promote the business opportunity. So in effect, the 'turnkey business opportunity' is in fact promoting the opportunity itself to others! Sounds ridiculous, right?

Unfortunately, that is the bare truth.

That's not to say that all of these opportunities don't work. There are the few that do work, because they are limited to only a few people.

The reason why so many will not succeed is because these opportunities often have hundreds or even thousands of people on board, all promoting the same product or opportunity. The result is too much competition. Only a few end up profiting, and the product owner is often the one that ends up laughing to the bank.

So now that you know the truth, stay clear of these opportunities, and build a real Internet business. Your own.

Create your own product using resell rights products or hire a ghostwriter, build your own website, do your own marketing.

Is it Worth Moonlighting to Subsidize Your Income - Only You Can Decide

As oil prices rocket and push up inflation, more and more people around the world, are looking at ways to subsidize their income.

In the U.K. a foreclosure is called a repossession. Market analysis shows U.K. mortgage issues mirroring trends in the United States, as home owners find it difficult to refinance. The Council of Mortgage Lenders said the global credit crunch was exacerbating trends that were already emerging in the housing market. It said it had already been expecting arrears and possessions to rise, but the situation would be worse than previously expected because of the tighter lending criteria many mortgage lenders are now imposing.,

More people now, experiencing the "credit crunch" are "Moonlighting" with the sole purpose of generating an extra income to survive and which before, used to be to afford luxuries.

Moonlighting takes on various forms, ie those that take a second job over and above their normal job and the other individuals who also have a regular job, but who are skilled in what they do and offer a service to anyone prepared to pay them outside of normal working hours.

With the latter type of "Moonlighter" this can be a win win situation for both the consumer and the moonlighter alike.

The consumer gets a job done by a professional for a fraction of the normal cost of hiring maybe the same professional through the Company he or she works for. Add to this, the benefit of the moonlighter offering his or her services outside of normal business hours. ie no need to take time off work to wait for the washing machine engineer to call and fix your broken appliance.

The moonlighter gets an additional boost to his or her normal income and he can build up his client base part time, until he feels he has enough clients to branch out on his own with his own full time business.

Needless to say, there are risks associated with this practice, for both the moonlighter and the consumer.

From a Consumer point of view, if wishing to use the services of such a moonlighter, it makes sense to use only someone recommended or at the very least, ensure that he or she has suitable liability insurance cover for any unforeseen accidents etc.

The greatest risk however, is for that of the moonlighter.

Most employers, will take a very dim view of anyone carrying out or offering a service in the same field as which the moonlighter is employed by them. Anyone considering this route would do well to check their contract of employment to ensure that they do not breach the terms of this and which could lead to dismissal if found out. If in doubt ask!

Moonlighters should always make sure they have adequate liability insurance, to cover them against claims for accidental damage or even negligence etc.

There is another type of moonlighter. Those individuals and there are more and more of them, who start an on line home business part time. The attraction of being able to make a substantial increase in income on line, is drawing in hundreds if not thousands of people daily.

No matter what type of moonlighter, they are all striving for a common goal....to make money!

It cannot be stressed enough, that when you make money, you attract the Tax Man! You must keep records of all income and expenditure and be prepared to put some aside for when the Tax man wants his cut!

Weigh up the risks versus the benefits......is it worth moonlighting? Only you can decide!

Liquid Hate - Acid Assault Cases in Kenya

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. This is one thing 'Bob' learned the hard way a few years ago when he had his face and upper body splashed with acid by a jilted lover. She cleverly lured him into a trap by asking him to drop her to pick some things at Sun 'N' Sand Beach Hotel in Kikambala off the Mombasa-Malindi highway. She had done her homework well and knew that to get to the hotel which is quite interior from the highway, they would pass through some dark deserted areas. Love affairs are difficult to read from outside so whether the lady in question was actually jilted or not is something nobody except the two can know for sure. But I don't think anyone deserves an acid bathe on the face for whatever reason.

They met at around 8.00 and set off to the hotel. At the most deserted stretch, the lady poured the acid on the left side of his face and upper body. She also stabbed him but fortunately the knife did not touch any vital organs. It's the burning and the realization that he was staring death in the face in a dark deserted place that was really getting at him. He stayed there burning for close to two hours. Fortunately he survived. He was rescued by a tours and travel van driver who was coming from the hotel and rushed to hospital where he stayed for months undergoing reconstructive treatment. His face was permanently disfigured by the time he left the hospital.

From the reports I've read around, an acid bathe at first feels like hot water on the skin. Then there's stinging and a burning sensation that gets worse and worse as the acid eats into the flesh. The victim feels like his/her face is melting away. A lot of victims of this heinous and cowardly crime die soon after the attack but those who survive require months of hospitalization and reconstructive surgery. It's like the acid also continues to eat at the flesh of the victim way after treatment commences. Some have to have their faces rebuild piece by piece over time. Whichever way, they carry the physical and emotional scars for life. The Psychological trauma of permanent disfiguration is immense and considering that most attackers target the face, permanent blindness is common.

This cowardly but frightening phenomenon is not as common in Kenya as it is in countries like Cambodia and Nigeria but that does not mean it does not happen. Cases of acid assault reported at Kenyatta National Hospital for example are in the range of 4-5 per month. In Nairobi Women's hospital they're few and far between but when they are brought in, they're of such magnitude they're not easily forgotten. Acids and other corrosive substances belong to laboratories and industries but the thing is it's very easy to acquire them. Sulphuric and Hydrochorolic acids which are the ones most commonly used by attackers are both readily available over the counter at Kshs.500 per liter. One can even get then from car repair shops for a pittance. Although Kenya has signed three UN conventions regulating the sale of acids and other corrosive agents, it's yet to adopt this law within the country.

Acid wielding killers are just as bad as gun totting criminals and just like we have gun controls, we need some regulation on sales of acids and other corrosive substances.

Build and Maintain Websites For Profit

Even with limited knowledge and experience, you can build and maintain websites for profit. Here are just some ways you can do so.

1. Develop Websites for Local Businesses

Approach local business persons and sell them on the
necessity and financial benefits of having a
professional website. Local advertising may get you
started as well, but expect to get a large portion of
your business from referrals.

Charge your clients for the initial design and setup
of the website. Work with them to develop a theme for
their site based on their unique advantages over the
competition. Keep the site simple to start with so
that the cost of producing it is not prohibitive to
the business and you can complete it profitably in a
short time.

In this business, you can also make money on the
maintenance and ongoing support of the website.
Charge recurring monthly fees for such services needed
as web hosting, updates and improvements to the site`s
content, search engine optimization and submission,
increasing traffic, traffic analysis, mailing list
production and maintenance, and much more.

You don`t have to be a master Internet programmer to
provide needed, additional services. There are many
free and low cost sources of scripts and other resources
available to you on the Internet. Offer your clients
(and charge extra for) flash introductions, animated
graphics, syndicated content, traffic counters,
submission forms, chat rooms, pop-up windows,
autoresponders, and more.

2. Sell Websites on the Internet

Build web stores, search engines, shopping portals, and
other websites and sell them on the Internet.

Some develop sites from templates sold by others.
Others build websites from scratch. These websites have
been sold on the Internet as turnkey businesses through
eBay and other websites.

Another option is to take existing free services and
resell them. For example, you could take advantage of
free web stores available to you on the Internet.
Register a suitable domain name, obtain free or low
cost web space, and host that free store at your
domain on your web space. Promote your website and
increase traffic. Finally, sell your website to the
highest bidder on eBay. Be sure that either your
Reserve Price or Opening Bid is high enough to make it
profitable to you. You will need to transfer the domain
name to the buyer.

3. Become an Internet Marketer

Build your own unique website based on a niche theme
that has a sufficient market. Then tie in your content
with appropriate affiliate programs and your own as well
as other peoples` products and services.

To increase commissions and sales, you will need to
regularly maintain your site by updating content,
increasing targeted traffic, adding appropriate products
and services, et cetera.

These, then, are just a few ways that you can profit
financially from building and maintaining websites.
